With the increase in the penetration of health insurance in India, most of you must have bought a health insurance policy for yourself and your family. In fact, we're sure that you must have also purchased a top up health insurance cover.
Besides knowing that the top up cover can financially protect you once you exhaust your SI (
sum insured) of the base plan, how much more do you know about your top up health cover? Do you know the basic differences between your base health insurance policy and your top up health cover?
We want you to have the best of both worlds, i.e. the best of both the policies. So, Here're some points of difference that you should check out before buying a health insurance policy.
Difference Between Base Plan and Top-Up Plan in Health Insurance
1. Aggregate Deductible
Choosing an aggregate deductible is the process of cost sharing between you and your insurer. The aggregate deductible is the amount that you have to pay towards health care services before your insurance kicks in.
Now, you can choose the aggregate deductible only with your
top up health insurance plan, like Bajaj Allianz's Extra Care Plus policy. But, the concept of aggregate deductible does not apply to the base health insurance plan.
2. Co-Payment
Co-payment is the fixed percentage of the claim that you agree to pay every time you file a
health insurance claim. For e.g. if you choose a co-payment of 20% and your claim amount is INR 1, 00,000, then you will have to pay INR 20,000 and your insurance company will pay the remaining INR 80,000 towards the medical treatment received by you.
Co-payment is like a discount that you get on your premium amount once you have chosen the co-pay percentage voluntarily. You can choose a
co-pay only with your base health insurance plan and not with your top up health insurance cover.
3. Stand-alone Policy
Many of you must be thinking that you can opt for a top up health insurance cover; only if you have a
comprehensive health insurance plan. But, this is not true with Bajaj Allianz's Extra Care Plus policy. You can choose to buy a base
health insurance plan and a top up cover as stand-alone policies.
4. Add-on Covers
Our Extra Care Plus top up cover acts as an additional cover that can take care of your finances when you exhaust the SI of your existing base health insurance policy. And, you get to choose an optional cover - air ambulance cover with this top up health insurance cover.
5. Cumulative Bonus
A
cumulative bonus is the benefit offered by Bajaj Allianz to you for every claim free year. An added advantage of this is that you get the benefit of an increased SI with the same premium amount.
You can avail this bonus only with your base health insurance plan and not with the top up health insurance cover.
We hope that now you can choose your family or
personal medical insurance base plan as well as your top up health insurance cover keeping in mind the points of difference discussed above. We aim to provide you with the complete details of all our insurance plans so that you can choose the most suitable plan to cover yourself and your loved ones.
