Know How To Find Vehicle Registration Details Online

Every vehicle that is to be driven on the roads in the country has to be registered with one of the Road Transport Offices or RTOs. This registration process ensures that the details about the vehicle are recorded, which include the specification of the vehicle as well as the details pertaining to its ownership. With these details, tracing a vehicle in the case of theft, accidents, or other similar situations, is possible. While registration is an essential requirement to drive it legally, a pollution certificate and a motor insurance policy are also mandatory. Imagine a situation where a biker recklessly brushes an elderly pedestrian but flees away with the fear of getting reprimanded. As a witness to the incident, you manage to note down the registration number, but have no other details. In this case, you would be required to visit the RTO to find additional details about the rider. But the long bureaucratic process and documentation formalities make the entire process cumbersome. Instead of undergoing these hassles, you can find the details about the vehicle owner online using the VAHAN facility. It is a national vehicle registration that was launched back in 2011 by the Ministry of Road, Transport and Highway in collaboration with the National Informatics Centre. The official data of the VAHAN website states that it holds data with respect to registration certificates of more than 25 crore motor vehicles. As of August 2022, there are a total of 294,928,945 digitised vehicles registered on the VAHAN website which include cars, bikes, cabs, busses, auto rickshaws, and many more. * VAHAN service was launched to collate all details related to the motor vehicle registration certificate and driving licences from the RTOs across India. Thus, a central repository of vehicles is available for all vehicles that are registered within the country.

Can you find the vehicle registration details using the VAHAN service?
