Can my priceless collection of art from around the world be covered by insurance?

As a collector of arts, you do a service to society by acquiring and taking care of priceless curios and paintings. A lot of money goes into possessing these artefacts and hence, should be covered by insurance in case of a damaging incident.

If you are a collector, you must have two basic things;

2) An insurance policy that covers those priceless pieces of art.

If you store or display your collection at home, a home insurance is your safest bet. While applying for home insurance, you must provide the average value of the contents of your home. In case of damage, you will be repaid the value of the entire collection.

You must, however, keep in mind that:

A Government-approved valuer will carry out the valuation of your collection. If you quote a higher price than what your collection is worth, even if you paid a higher price during acquisition, the insurance company will not abide by it.

To be eligible for the claim, the loss or damage to the curio or artwork has to happen in the premises of the house you have insured. You cannot claim cover if your collection undergoes damage while you were transporting them, or if they were in some other location.

It goes without saying that intentional damage will not be covered.

The conditions are pretty straightforward and justified. Having home insurance that legally indemnifies you in case of accidental loss or damage of valuable art collection is a must-have for every collector.
